Srinagar, May 15:  Three unemployed forestry graduates on Thursday climbed a mobile tower in Srinagar and threatened to commit suicide if they were not given jobs.

The three BSc (forestry) graduates climbed the BSNL tower at Regal Chowk in the heart of the city on Thursday morning and threatened to jump off if they were not given employment, an official spokesman said.

He said Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Ejaz Iqbal immediately deputed Disaster Management Coordinator Aamir Ali to go and convince them to come down.

Power supply to the area was also cut off and after nearly two hours, the three were persuaded to come down. They were brought down by fire service personnel, he said.

The authorities also asked mobile service providers to prevent the access of unauthorised persons to their towers.

"In case this mechanism is not put in place for all mobile towers by service providers, legal action will be initiated against them," the deputy commissioner warned.

This is the second such incident. Last year, a group of unemployed electropathy graduates had climbed the same tower and were brought down after 24 hours.

This incident also comes barely a week after four unemployed ITI passouts jumped into the river Jhelum to end their lives. However, they were rescued by boatmen.
