Srinagar A policeman was injured when suspected militants opened fire on the escort vehicle of a senior security official in Shopian district of South Kashmir.

Unidentified gunmen opened fire on the escort vehicle of Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir, Rajesh Kumar near Maminder, 50 kms from here, late last night while he was returning from Shopian after reviewing the law and order situation there, police said on Wednesday.

Shopian town is on the boil since the rape and murder of two women on May 30.
