Srinagar, September 5:  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday called for the resumption of the dialogue involving varying groups, including the Hurriyat Conference, at the earliest for the resolution of the Kashmir issue and said no force should be used to deal with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Use of force has neither worked in the past nor will help in dousing the current volatile situation. There is a need for initiating Kashmir-centric confidence-building measures and an institutionalised dialogue with the separatist leaders to bring in peace and harmony in the region," senior PDP leaders said in a joint statement in Srinagar.

"PDP favours early resumption of trade on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road to address the issue of alienation among the Kashmiri masses," Vice-president of PDP Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, General Secretary Nizamudin Bhat and Political Secretary Peerzada Mansoor Hussain said.

Demanding immediate release of separatist leaders booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA), they said: "The indiscriminate arrests in Kashmir may further add to the popular anger."
