10 lakh children given polio drops

People carrying small children braved intermittent snowfall and made their way to over 5,000 pulse polio booths across Kashmir valley in response to the pulse polio immunisation drive.

Srinagar, January 6:  People carrying small children on Sunday braved intermittent snowfall and made their way to over 5,000 pulse polio booths across Kashmir valley in response to the pulse polio immunisation drive.

Around 10 lakh children in the 0-5 age group were given polio drops and 20,000 government employees from health, social welfare and other departments manned the booths to make the programme a success, officials said in Srinagar.

Supervisory and mobile teams were also deployed so that far-flung areas were also covered, they said.
